Latest News - South Crofty Tin Ingots

The final limited edition South Crofty tin ingots are now finished and ready for release. As mentioned previously, these are traditional 28lb with two hot marks – the original ‘lamb & flag’ from the Cornish Tin Smelting Co Redruth, Seleggan, which shut down in 1931, and the ‘WHEAL JANE MINE BALDHU – SOUTH CROFTY TIN’ hot mark produced in 2024.

Each ingot will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a small jar of concentrate from the last day of production. Information for the certificates was supplied by senior management working at South Crofty and Wheal Jane in the years before closure, all of whom had actually been involved with the mines since the early/mid 1980s.

Nine ingots are now available to purchase (POA). In addition, one will be auctioned for charity, and two will be retained at Wheal Jane for display purposes. The charity auction will be held by Lay’s of Penzance with proceeds going to the Children’s Hospice South West. The charity ingot will be the centrepiece of a “Mining History” auction which will take place in the summer with the date still to be confirmed.
